The (somewhat accurate) "biblical" parallels in killing eve are insane how am i realising it just now
You have Eve, who is well Eve. In this picture, Lilith is the serpent tempting Eve. Villanelle tempts eve in much the same way. Lilith is not portrayed as seductive, just questioning, planting the seed of doubt, gently suggesting a possibility and offering means. Eve looks doubtful, questioning, just a little uncomfortable. Quite the same way Eve begins to realise her obsession with Villanelle is affecting her relationship with Niko and everything else. This moment of question pops up in the book (Codename: Villanelle) as when she wears the bracelet instead of submitting it for evidence. She questions the way she's impressed by, "the sheer, dazzling effrontery of it".
In the show, we see it when she applies the lipstick, there's a moment of utter, "what am i doing, this is supposed to be evidence". Yet she does it. She doesn't even get mad when the blade cuts her lip.
She just questions herself. Stares at the spectacle Villanelle's made her
Such a bold statement to make. A perfect signature.
Going to Villanelle, the stereotypical Lilith is portrayed as sexually empowering, dominating. In both the shows and the books, Villanelle is portrayed as sexually wanton, despite her choice of career which demands utmost secrecy.
Working for the Dvenadtsat, she couldn't care less about formality and cleanliness even after being warned - the style, the independence is her signature. To her each kill is a work of art, it deserves a proper artist's signature. Quite easy to draw parallels here.
Then we have the comparison of Lilith and Eve, the dominant and submissive counterparts of each other. What if Eve (from bible) wasn't formed from Adam's rib? What if she wasn't damned to be obedient?
That's just exactly the question Eve (the show character) represents. Society, as it always does, expected Eve to be content with a loving husband, a fulfilling job, a house, good colleagues. But Eve is anything but normal. She's the John to Holmes, who tags along for the danger, the adrenaline. She loves the thrill of not knowing if her next step is going to be her last one. And Villanelle takes her as the apprentice, both in the book and in the show.
"You were never like them. You only thought you were."

This is not right.
Context: this is part of Death Metal, and all the universes are being destroyed. All the heroes of the main universe, and some from other universes, have gathered together on the eve of the final, hopeless, battle. They all know they are probably going to die. Batman asks Batgirl (Babs) to âgather the boysâ, and she heads off, finding Robin first:
The Robin playing cards here is wearing what is obviously a Damian-Robin outfit, with grey sleeves, grey trousers, a red tunic with yellow bars across the front, and a grey cape with a yellow hood. Barbara addresses him as âTimâ. He excuses himself from the game.
(We saw Tim earlier in a Titans crowd scene, where he was wearing his usual short black sleeves and a hoodless cape. Thereâs no reason given for him to steal Damianâs outfit now.)
Barbara then rounds up Jason and Dick, on panel, and brings them along as well, and then we see this:
Apparently, Tim is still playing poker and will âbe along soonâ (though he doesnât turn up at all in the whole scene). Bruce says thereâs no time and they will start without Tim. The Robin standing here, wearing exactly the same outfit as in the previous panel, then has to be Damian â and towards the end of the meeting is addressed as such.
What they are there to do, it turns out, is basically the Bat equivalent of a group hug. Bruce wants his kids there so he can look upon them and think sappy thoughts about how much he loves them.
Thereâs a moment where they pool some items of kit (the paucity of equipment here makes me think this is more symbolic, a kind of Communion, than anything practical) and the speech bubble coming from where Robin was last seen standing says âI won some bulletsâ, implying he was the one at the poker game.
So I am expected to believe that, on the eve of the end of all worlds, where everyone is fully expecting to die,
Bruce wants his sons and Barbara with him, for purely emotional reasons, and doesnât ask for Cass or Steph (or for that matter Jarro, who has been clinging to and parented by Bruce for a good part of this event)
either Tim dresses up as Damian for no apparent reason or Tim was hiding behind the tent and takes Damianâs place in the poker game for no apparent reason when Damian leaves (and either way Tim would rather play poker with some randos than spend time with his family on the eve of the end of the world)
Barbara, sent to gather the batboys for a final batmeeting, lets Tim play poker and doesnât insist he join them
Bruce, gathering his family for one last together moment, decides not to wait for Tim, even though he is apparently coming soon, and not to think anything more about him
Bruce has the audacity, the sheer effrontery, to think this of a group that does not include TIm:
#dc comics#batfam#dc death metal#bruce wayne loves his kids#but he appears to have forgotten about half of them#presumably some writer or artist mixed up tim and damian#or straight up forgot one of them existed#I am going to pretend that tim was there at least#I really donât think heâd want to miss this#and so I might as well pretend cass and steph are there too#and jarro of course#though itâs worth noting that these people are the bats depicted as dying in the battle (except bruce who is already dead)#and the others arenât (at least not on panel)#so maybe he was gathering them in particular to ask for permission to raise them when they died; even if itâs not shown on panel#but in that case how did he know which ones were going to die? some black lantern power perhaps?#batfam death project#batfam death project sidetrack

Tony: HAaNG oN!?
Two versions again.
Iâve been meaning to draw this scene from @sineala s fic âNot So Secret Anymoreâ (go read it, itâs awesome). Because Tonyâs sheer effrontery at Steve saying nice things about him (TO HIS FACE!) is hilarious.
Extract from the fic that inspired this sketch
"Wait a minute," Tony said, indignant, fitting a few puzzle pieces of his own together. "So on the way to the meeting, when you were telling me about your computer problems and you kept telling me how kind I'd been to you, you-- you knew you were talking to me the whole time? You were telling me nice things about me to my face?"
He's not sure that's an actual possible crime anywhere. Probably not. Nonetheless, he feels just a little bit betrayed.â

Etymology: past participle of targr "to clean, wipe, scrub", descendant of Latin tergĹ (variant of tergeĹ "I wipe, polish"). In the last sense first seen in certain collocations like victoir tars "a runaway victory".

Malita being a woman really is the root of her problems. If she were a man, Paul wouldn't be able to condescend the way he does. He uses her, he disregards her goals and emotions, he denies her the memory of her husband and the solace of her work but don't worry, "[she'll] be well taken care of." And he seems to think she's just going to be fine with this, because women aren't really people the way men are.
God, and the sheer effrontery to say, "Think of your work; think of Marcel" when she tries to kill them both. I do have sympathy for Paul, but absolutely fuck him for that.
Justice for Malita.

I like to imagine Varys had the chutzpah to just wait for Jon Arryn to call a Small Council meeting and just showed up. Like Jon opens the door to the Council chambers, and Varys is already in the room, Hello Lord Arryn, I have the latest whispers from my little birds for you, like a guy at a firm that's undergone a major management shift who has determined to hold onto his job just by the sheer dint of brazening it out. Of course I'm here, I'm the Master of Whisperers, this is my duty. Pray where else would I be? If nothing else the sheer effrontery would amuse Robert.
It probably didn't go down that way, but I can imagine.
We know that Varys tried to convince Aerys to keep the gates closed the Lannister army and that Pycelle encouraged Aerys to open them wide. That indicates that they were both present in KL during the final days of the Rebellion. My question is this, do you think once the doors were open and the Lions started sacking the city, that both the master of Whispers and Grand Maester simply âvanishedâ until the dust had settled?
I believe Pycelle probably went to his apartments, barricaded the door, and waited until Lannister troops came to escort him safely to Tywin's forces. The Grand Maester, as a position, benefits from "maester neutrality," so that does assist him in not being seen as an Aerys loyalist, even if Northern troops happened to get to him first.
Varys though, almost certainly disappeared into the labyrinth of secret passages honeycombing the Red Keep to ensure the safety of his person. He perceived that he would have probably been killed in the sack. and so he'd look for a place no one knew until he could arrange to surrender himself to Robert. Robert's legendary status as those who pardoned his former foes probably worked in Varys's favor there.
Thanks for the question, Anon.

A quarter of the way through my Harrow the Ninth re-read now. I'm clearer on the Body now (right, it's Wake, even from the very beginning; that's how it knows to tell Harrow to lie about her age to Mercymorn, something that confused me deeply in the first read-through).
Words looked up: "mollient," which turns out to be yet another new form of a word I thought I knew. In this case I was most familiar with "mollify" (to talk someone down from being angry), but I didn't realize that word was also connected to "emollient," which basically only ever comes up in the context of lotions. They all essentially mean "soften".
Still absolutely dazzled by Abigail Pent. She became an immediate fave on my first read-through and on the second she's becoming a problem. May have to start seeking out fic and art. Magnus, while still being not the main draw here, is a bonus in his own right. I want to be in a throuple with them so bad.
"Stop flirting with my wife," said Magnus. (Harrowhark had forgotten that he was Abigail's husband, and found the concept of making eyes at one's cavalier too revolting to bear.) Oh, Harrow. I cannot with you, dear demented one. You loved your cavalier so much you lobotomized yourself to preserve her in a place where you could not access her memory; and now you sneer at others for a failing that has ravaged you so deeply you cannot even allow yourself to perceive it.
It's really that combination, right there: unholy skill. desperately denied passion. sheer effrontery. Harrowhark Nonagesimus my faildaughter cringelyctor. I am so proud of you. These books are so good, so good, works of absolutely disturbing genius, I feel like I could read them ten times and discover new layers each time.

âHow dare you?â
Jaw clenched tightly, Vaderâs nostrils flared as he breathed through his aggravation at the cloneâs audacity. The sheer effrontery of Foxâs behaviour was completely unlike him - that was, until Vader corrected his assumptions and realised that Fox did not answer to him; he answered most ultimately to Lord Sidious. Somehow Vader had not thought that getting past his own armyâs troops would be a problem on this mission. How the kriff had Fox even known?
He hadnât even found Master Nuâs holocron, the library had been empty and eerie with silence when he had broken in - and yet the Shock troopers heâd run into with stun batons and blaster rifles were clever enough not to tell him they knew he was here to steal it until he had an audience with their commander. At that point it became quickly apparent that Fox was labouring under no assumption that Vader was here merely to bring the holocron back to his master Sidious like a good, loyal second-in-command. Like the second-in-command Fox himself would have been. Vader knew this wasnât going to end well as soon as he saw the commander. Well before the muzzle of the cloneâs blaster was pressing into his cheek. But he still hadnât expected Fox to be so insubordinate.
âI see youâre harbouring ambitions above your station, Commander Fox. Iâm sure Lord Sidious will have some interesting ideas regarding what to do about that. Or would you prefer I donât tell him?â
This has been one of the busiest nights his legions has ever had to deal with, since their arrival. And for the first time, in a long time, Fox didnât take any issues with it. After all, ever since Sidious issued the command to start a manhunt against the jedi, a wave of reinvigorated energy washed over him. Nothing so far in his life, has ever brought him this amount of thrill and joy. It was a particularly easy task to execute. The people of Coruscant were mostly bystanders, with a select few that were assisting the guards and members of the 501st on their pursuit.
The night was a child, they had plenty of time to keep up like this.
However, the Marshal commanderâs fun time came to a sudden halt, when they crossed paths right here. The other man should be aware of how an interuption like this, easily got on his nerves. Despite it all, he had no intentions of shooting, the man that has been leading the attack on the temple, this entire time. He just wanted to make it clear to the other, how he didnât appraciate being pulled from the manslaughter on the streets.
âLord Sidious is currently too busy for both of us.â Fox responded with a miffed hint in his voice, as he finally pulled the blaster away from the otherâs face. âWe shouldnât bother him, general. The birth of the Galactic Empire, is far too important for him.â He added in the same tone, as he turned to his bystanding men and dismissed them.
âGo, there are still many others running around the streets.â
So now it was just both of them, in a mostly empty building that was being ramsacked by anyone that dared to brave into the temple. âMy apologies, sir. The guards shouldnât be here. Not without me, at least.â A sigh followed those words, before he removed his bucket helmet and came face to face with Vader (as he was now going by apparently). âYouâre looking a bit different, sir.â He spoke in a joking manner, as he finally took a look at their surroundings. âWhat could you possibly be looking for in a place like this on your own?â

JAZMINE HARPER - TV TROPES
manipulative bastard
The Manipulative Bastard is the master manipulator of people, in essence, a character who manipulates others through their emotions, perspectives, psychologies and any other way they can get them dancing to their tune. This is the guy or gal who gets off on playing head/mind gamesâclever and dangerous and lacking comedic overtones (usually). She always has a plan ready, but rather than do any work, the Manipulative Bastard prefers to play on other characters' emotions and mental states and then watch the victims destroy themselves as they waste their energy on fighting against fake dangers or their friends.
are we surprised? with a lack of loyalty to others, including her own family, jazmine will gladly step on others and use their weaknesses to her advantage to get what she wants. sheâs been a manipulative bastard since she was a child, ever since she first discovered how much her mist control could control the perceptions of others. observant and resourceful, jazmine has no qualms using her talents to gain unauthorized information about others and using it for her personal gain. she views people as her pawns, and her selfish way of thinking gives her little guilt about physically or mentally forcing others into submission. this is a trait sheâs picked up from her own father, which we will delve into in the next trope.
daddyâs little villain
mention of emotional abuse tw
She's the daughter of an Evil Overlord, who shares her parent's ambition, cunning, and cruelty. She could be anything from a simple Spoiled Brat to an Overlord in waiting. She's also likely to be a Princess (since even villainy is improved with that), although she will still prefer wearing black or dark colors over pink.Â
jazmineâs mortal father can largely be thanked for the way she is now. from as young as she can remember, he was training jazmine to be a powerful force in both the demigod and mortal world. while he raised her to think she could accomplish anything she worked toward, she was mostly a pawn to satisfy his thirst for power. he didnât care much for her as a daughter; mostly for what she could do for him. she started to recognize this during her formative middle school years, consequently turning her childhood role model into her worst enemy. when she started rebelling against him and acting out, he sent her away full-time to a camp on the other side of the globe. since then, the issues only progressed, eventually leading to a falling out in which she hasnât seen or spoken to her mortal family in many years.Â
this upbringing has fueled her desire to constantly be the best in her fields of expertise, which is partly why she quested for years in hopes of some type of recognition. with the heavily hidden hope that she could one day rub in his face that she had succeeded without him, all her life she has fought to try to âprove her worthâ to others despite being the daughter of a minor goddess (or titan). because her father only loved what she could do for him, she places everyone in two categories: the puppets, and the puppeteers.Â
and she will never be the puppet again.
broken ace
He's tall, charming, strikingly good-looking, well-spoken in five languages, and classically trained in even more instruments. But inside, he's an ugly, writhing mass of self-hatred and Parental Issues. Expect him to have at least one bizarre trait or ability that should not be overlooked, as well as an unhealthy attitude about love, life, and humanity in general. He most likely doesn't have anyone that loves or respects him for what he really is. This may be justified. This character is usually male, but not always. Also, he may just be a perfectionist crumbling under his own standards. The chief difference between the Broken Ace and the usually female Stepford Smiler is that the Stepford Smiler wants to appear normal at all costs, often to the point of hurting herself emotionally (or because she's sociopathic). This guy has the same setup, but is more talented and wants to be the best, loved by all, and accepted.
although the timeline wasnât as accelerated as she had hoped when she was a child, jazmine was making waves in the world of deities before her last quest against zeus had occurred. now, as a semi-retired quester, she is captain of the football team and starting to make a name for herself in the mortal fields of business and sports. despite the air of nonchalant superiority that she constantly tries to present, she is in a constant state of despair. right when she starts to undergo some development in her relationships with others, they leave, and she is constantly failing her own impossibly high standards. sheâs crumbling, and at any point she is ready to run away again.
ice queen
Much like a Tomboy, the Ice Queen is a major character archetype which is somewhat hard to define. Her signature characteristic is that she is cold; the ambiguity comes from what "cold" means. She has a cold heart, a frosty demeanor and very often a resting bitch face; she attracts but will never be wooed. The Ice Queen is considered dangerous to love because she will not (or cannot) love back. She's not much for friendship either, preferring to be alone. Situations where an Ice Queen "thaws" and learns to enjoy the company of others are so common that they have their own trope.
sheâs cold and takes no shit. she holds people at a distance, even those that could potentially be considered friends. she doesnât believe in unconditional love, and she believes that most affection direct toward her is generally a ruse to get her guard down. sheâs unnecessarily rude to others, almost relishing in the negative reactions at times, but to her, sheâs just keeping it real.
the trickster
A trickster is a character who plays tricks or otherwise disobeys normal rules and conventional behavior. The Trickster openly questions and mocks authority, encourages impulse and enthusiasm, seeks out new ideas and experiences, destroys convention and complacency, and promotes chaos and unrest. At the same time, the trickster brings new knowledge, wisdom and many An Aesop. Even when punished horribly for his effrontery, his indomitable spirit (or plain sheer foolishness) keeps him coming back for more. Tricksters can be anything from gods of chaos, bedeviling heroes for a few laughs, to master manipulators who use cruel ploys and sadistic choices. They can also be heroes (or more likely Anti-Heroes) who make up for a lack of strength or bravery with manipulation, planning, or just plain cheating. The trickster is often a Master of Disguise and may have magical or super-powers. They're often found Walking the Earth.
although this description was much more relevant when she was younger, jazmine has a penchant for drama and chaos. she genuinely has fun engaging in pranks and tricks, and she gladly lifts a symbolic middle finger to authority in any chance that she gets. in middle school, she was nearly expelled from a mortal school because of all her tricks, and she spent a sizable portion of her adult years before eonia traveling and engaging in casual mayhem. when she isnât getting revenge or fulfilling a paid request, she generally has fun toying with others.
deadpan snarker
A character prone to gnomic, sarcastic, sometimes bitter, occasionally whimsical asides. The Deadpan Snarker exists to deflate pomposity, point out the unlikelihood of certain plans, and deliver funny lines. Typically the most cynical supporting character. In most cases, it is implied that the snarker would make a good leader, strategist, or consultant given their ability to instantly see the flaws in a constructed plan. More often than not, their innate snarkiness is the only thing preventing the other characters from comprehending this for themselves. In other cases, the Deadpan Snarker resorts to sarcasm because they're the Only Sane Man. Tends to be shot a Death Glare when they go too far (and probably isn't without one of their own, either). Note that due to the definition evolving, the "Deadpan" part of the title has gradually become The Artifact and a deadpan delivery is no longer a necessary part of the trope.
jazmine is no stranger to delivering biting remarks coupled with foul language. sheâs quick to point out flaws, opting for the brutally honest approach more times than not. sheâs aware that her language can hurt others, but she finds it easier to escape the frivolities and get to the point. depending on the person, she exaggerates this trope by trying to draw out a bad response from them, mostly for her own entertainment. people already view her as heinous, so why not embrace the reputation, right?
survivor guilt
death mention tw
You might be the Last Of Your Kind or someone else made a Heroic Sacrifice for you or you lived through a Restricted Rescue Operation, but whatever the reason, you're going to feel a massive sense of guilt.Â
although the quest with adelphie and celeste was technically a success, with the trident successfully being returned back to poseidon, the team had faced major losses. adelphie had lost her life, and celeste had suffered debilitating injuries. physically, jazmine suffered the least, and itâs a guilt that she continues to carry.
aloof big sister
to the majority of the hecate family, especially @rostameu
He's smarter, stronger, faster, more talented, and more refined than the hero, and â just to add insult to injury â he's probably sexier, too. His only problem seems to be moving his face out of that expression of bored, dignified disdain. And he just happens to be the elder brother of one of the main cast, which often gives them a raging inferiority complex. Will most likely double as the Ineffectual Loner and Noble Demon, thereby running the risk of becoming an Ensemble Darkhorse. May or may not be evil, strictly speaking, but is almost guaranteed to fight against the protagonists at one point, and spout off Cryptic Conversation to prove how much better informed he is. May or may not be a Stealth Mentor and/or consider his younger siblings annoying. Often an integral part of a mysterious organisation, and may be the Enigmatic Minion or even a Hero Antagonist in that case.
OKAY, so the running joke with jazmine is that she dislikes her siblings, which is very true tbh. iâm not going to speak for rostam and say most of that stuff actually applies, but jazmine is very cold toward her younger brother and views herself as much better in every way. with loner tendencies, disdain toward her brother, and shady side hustles, she matches this trope very well, and it was only fitting to add a trope about disliking siblings to jazmineâs task. and yes, sheâs technically one of the youngest right now but hush.
